AZ CHARITABLE TAX CREDIT FAQ

What is the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit?

This tax credit is available to Arizona residents who donate to State of Arizona-approved Qualifying Charitable Organizations (QCOs).

What is the amount of the credit?

The maximum credit allowed is $800 for married filing joint filers and $400 for single, heads of household, and married filing separate filers.

Can I donate to an Arizona  public school as well as to Free College Prep Services?

You can donate to a public school utilizing the public school tax credit and to Free College Prep Services  using the charitable tax credit, provided your AZ state tax liability is equal to, or exceeds the total amount of credits you are claiming.  The two tax credits do not compete with each other.

How can I confirm that Free College Prep Services is an approved Qualifying Charitable Organization?

Visit https://azdor.gov/tax-credits/contributions-qcos-and-qfcos and click on the link for 2019 QCOs. Free College Prep Services is listed as an approved QCO for 2019.

What is the difference between a tax credit and a tax deduction?

A tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction of your tax liability, which reduces the tax you owe. A tax deduction on the other hand reduces your taxable income.

Can I claim a tax credit and a tax deduction for my donation to Free College Prep Services?

Your donation to Free College Prep Services  may qualify you to a) Take the charitable tax credit on your AZ tax return and b) Take a charitable deduction on your Federal return. Please consult with your tax advisor regarding your particular situation. You cannot take a tax credit as well as a deduction for your donation on your AZ return.

Will I receive a receipt for my tax records?

A tax receipt will be provided for all donations received.

Do I need to itemize to take the tax credit?

You do not need to itemize to claim the credit.
